Live from New York....It's Santorum Night!

Okay, so Andy Samberg doesn't do a very good Santorum. (How could anyone do a "good" Santorum? Santorum's as vanilla & boring on the outside as he is crazy & dangerous on the inside.)

And yes, the bit makes Santorum seem a little stupid--BUT it also makes him seem hard-working, determined, & diligent. (Focus, SNL, focus.)

Sure, the bit just barely mentions Iran, his Google problem, & the fact that many people (especially gay folk) hate his guts. Worse than that: it doesn't even hint at what came first: his hatred of gays! (WTF, SNL?!!)

Perhaps most important: The bit's just not really funny. (Although there are a couple humorous lines.)

But this sketch is a start. One of the best ways to bring down someone of power is by ridiculing them.

So to SNL & Andy Samberg, I say this: Keep at it. Make it bigger. Don't let Santorum off the hook. Focus on something--perhaps his obsession with sex, especially incest & pedophilia. Or his seemingly regular, good-guy bland exterior which hides an insane, sex-obsessed, paranoid interior.

Revamp your Santorum to be more of a cartoon--a la Dana Carvey's Ross Perot. I.e., don't try to play him straight. Just hone in on one or two of his traits & make them huge. Like Santorum's love for his sweater vest. Turn it into unnatural man-on-sweater-vest attraction.

  1. This was pretty funny. They did what they could with the bland misguided mess of Santorum.

  2. Boy, was that ever not funny. The Real Deal blows that out of the water, even without a laugh track.

Just try to imagine how not funny it would be if that clown ever actually became our President.

  3. Lets be fair to SNL, Seth Meyers called him out in the weekend update segment. More to come?
From the NBC Quotables Press Release:
MEYERS – “Officials with the Iowa Republican Party are investigating a report that 20 votes on Tuesday were mistakenly recorded for Mitt Romney, which would mean that Rick Santorum actually won the caucus. And you know what THAT means. Nothing.”

MEYERS – “While campaigning in Iowa, Rick Santorum received a lot of attention for the sleeveless, V-neck sweater vests he always wears. Wow! He's so anti-gay he even refuses to dress well.”
